We have created a steam community group for XFactorGaming. If you own a steam group we are asking that you close it down. We would like for you to invite all your friends to this steam community group. Click Here to join the steam community group.
Please close down your groups, we only want one main steam community group. All the administrators will be getting access to post announcements and events. We will be trolling for groups that have been created for XFactorGaming and we will ask that you close them down, thanks.
If you have not noticed yet, we are have added XFactorGaming clan on gametracker. We would like for you guys to take the time and sign up on gametracker.com and join the XFactorGaming clan. Click Here to join the gametracker page.

What do Vegetarion Zombies Eat...GRAINS! |

I'm quite ashamed that this is coming to you late. It doesn't look professional to be tardy, and in the real world they would doc my fee.
Seeing as this is a first-person-shooter focused community, I thought I'd open my first article discussing exciting developments relevant to XfactorGaming.com.
In the short term, Left 4 Dead 2 is coming like a reverberating chain-saw of glee, but further off titles like MAG have implications for shooter communities like our own, as well. Wait, I hear you say, how dose a coming PS3 title have have anything at all to do with a computer gaming/x box community?
Even if MAG is being built for different architecture, and a platform not relevant to computer gaming, it will introduce play mechanics and design issues that will effect game design for shooters in the long run.
The key feature in MAG is that it enables 256 players to battle each other in a single match, simultaneously. It's an unprecedented amount of players outside of an MMO and it took Zipper Interactive 2 years to develop the technology to support that number without undermining overall perfomance.
The story line is pretty run-of-the-mill, but not disengaging. With oil resources dwindling, the nations of the world now rely on private military contractors to fight there wars. The three largest companies, and playable teams, are Raven; a technologically oriented PMC that fancies black uniforms and sleek infiltration, S.V.E.R, a Middle Eastern flavored PMC with a brutal style and a rough aesthetic, and Valor; a PMC that looks like the U.S. Army (Valor is supposed to be a tough, experienced group).
Superficially, design like this will result in a larger community size. Already we can look at existing communities and see existing models that will translate neatly over. With clans and stats, Xfactorgaming.com is actually an excellent example of a community, but now with things on a larger scale communities may feel a need to organize themselves differently.
On a deeper level such large match sizes will require designers to look for different game types, different objectives, different relationships, different play dynamics.
By relationships, I mean how do you enable the player to feel like a part of a cohesive game and not a confused free for all? Even games with relatively little story allow for players to make mental associations and impose there preservative upon a scenario. Some thought will have to go into it. I see mini-missions emerging, along with unit associations incorporated into them. MAG has done this to an extent, but so have a number of other titles.
Here is a quick run down on some of the design elements that prevent MAG from becoming an inordinately large Quake death match and promote the sense of relationship in a match. One, there are three factions in MAG (This reminded me slightly of Planet side, but with a slightly modern geopolitical... [Read More]

XFG - New Restructuring of XFG |
|
Jun 13, 2009 - 1:27 PM - by PoisonOfTheMind
|
Nobody said we were perfect. After my last post on restructuring, some of the members of XFG gave me some great information. Long story short, we have developed an even stronger structure for XFG to build on.
The new XFG structure will be three tiered.
Tier 1 - Administrators
Tier 2 - Directors
Tier 3 - Members
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Breakdown of Tiers
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tier 1 - Administrators - This will have 4 major positions in which the duties and responsibilities of XFG are divided. These positions will consist of the core leadership of XFG, and between them have the duties and access to manage all of XFG. Future positions can be added as needed, expanding on these roles. Sub-Administrators can be assigned from the Tier 2 - Directors, to assist or perform specific functions. At this time, we have no sub-administrators identified.
Tier 2 - Directors - This will consist of our Board of Directors. Previously known as the council, this new tier enables us to have additional members. They are leadership, but dont have specific management tasks assigned or expected from them. They act as advisers to the Tier 1 - Administrators, and as role models and leadership to Tier 3 - Members.
Tier 3 - Members - This includes all guest, regulars, and paying admins. The majority of XFG will reside in this tier.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Breakdown of specific roles
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---Tier 1---
Executive Administrator
- The Executive Administrator is the President of XFG. He oversees and has the final authority for all functions within XFG.
Operations Administrator
- The Operations Administrator is responsible for Day to Day operations of XFG. He reports regularly to the Executive Administrator, and acts as guidance to the other Administrators. He performs many of the tasks of the Executive Administrator in his absence.
Technical Administrator
- The Technical Administrator is responsible for the servers and technical side of XFG.
Financial Administrator
- The Financial Administrator is responsible for admin management, budgeting, and any other aspect that deals with XFG Finances.
---Tier 2---
Board of Directors
- The Board of Directors are elevated XFG members who have earned the respect of the Administrators. These members act as advisers and weigh in on matters involving XFG. While they arent... [Read More]

We got most of our database cleaned up, but still have a small issue with bad code. Unfortunately it means we cant add new admins till we clean up the last bit. Ive talked to a few of you, and we are working hard to get this fixed so our new admins can gain their admin powers.
Stick with us, were banging things back into shape!
